EU CBRN CoE Project 46 – NLEs Workshop in Luang Prabang
The National Laboratory Experts (NLE) Workshop on Biorisk Management of Lao PDR was successfully opened today at Luang Prabang Health Service Office, Luang Prabang, Lao PDR.
The opening ceremony included welcome remarks by Mr Phuothanouthong Xaysombath, National Focal Point for Lao PDR and Dr Amphone Phalammixay, Director of the Department of Health Service, Luang Prabang province.
The event is part of Phase 2 of the Regional Biorisk Expert Team (BET) training pathway designed and implemented in the framework of EU CBRN CoE Project 46 (European Union Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence Initiative).
Dr. Noikaseumsy Sithivong, Deputy Chief of Laboratory Division, National Centre for Laboratory and Epidemiology, Ministry of Health and Ms. Kongchay Phimmakong, Director of Technical Service Division, Biotechnology and Ecology Institute, Ministry of Science and Technology, who were previously trained as BET trainers under the same project, will deliver the training for the benefit of the 14 participants selected at the national level.
The workshop follows Phase 1 (Workshop I and Workshop II) of the project, where 16 delegates involved in the program from the participating South-East Asian countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, were trained as trainers in the field of Bio-Risk Management. The two BET trainers of the Lao PDR are now bringing their expertise gained through the project into practice.
