EU CBRN CoE Projet 46 – Opening of the NLEs Workshop in Manila
The National Laboratory Experts (NLE) Workshop on Biorisk Management of the Philippines was successfully opened today at Hotel Kimberly, Manila. The opening ceremony included welcome remarks by Col. José Embang Jr. and Dr. Robert Frank, Regional Cooperation Officer for South-East Asia, from the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines, as well as a Keynote Message by Prof. Dr. Irma R. Makalinao, University of the Philippines – Manila.
The event is part of Phase 2 of the Regional Biorisk Expert Team (BET) training pathway designed and implemented in the framework of EU CBRN CoE Project 46 (European Union Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence Initiative).
Prof. Ailyn Manglicmot Yabes from the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the College of Medicine (University of the Philippines, Manila) and Mr. Plebeian Bautista Medina, Head of the Biorisk Management office of the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, who were previously trained as BET trainers under the same project, will deliver the training for the benefit of the 18 participants selected at the national level.
The workshop follows Phase 1 (Workshop I and Workshop II) of the project, where 16 delegates involved in the program from the participating South-East Asian countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, were trained as trainers in the field of Bio-Risk Management. The two BET trainers of the Philippines are now bringing their expertise gained through the project into practice.
The workshop will last three days (25-27 October) and it will include practical sessions at the premises of the Department of Medical Microbiology, College of Public Health, University of the Philippines- Manila.
