ENDORSE Train-the-Trainer Course Phase 1 delivered with great success

We are proud to share that EDCTP ENDORSE Train-the-Trainer (T-t-T) course Phase 1 delivered with great success at the city of Gulu in Northern Uganda. Counting on the adherence of the 9 Associate Hospitals involved in the Project, the event took place at St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor premises between 24th to 29th of April 2017.  The T-t-T Phase 1 reached the objectives proposed in the work plan of the ENDORSE Project thanks to its’ devoted team of trainers and fully engaged healthcare officer participants. It provided important opportunity for exchange of knowledge among local and international partners and provided practical sessions that will help healthcare officers of the Associate Hospitals to take immediate action when it is needed. Some of the topics covered were: Biological agents, Viral Hemorrhagic Fever, Personal Protective Equipment, Public Health Measures for Epidemics, Principles of decontamination, Waste management, Incident Management, among others.

In order to achieve the capacity building objectives, EDCTP ENDORSE has designed and is now testing a sustainable Train the Trainer model that is being implemented via two subsequent training phases. According to its model, ENDORSE T-t-T Phase 1 required the selection of healthcare officers (clinical and laboratory personnel) to be trained as trainers in the field of response to infectious disease outbreaks resulting in health emergencies at both the laboratory level and the patient-care level. During the six days’ course, these trainers not only gained capacities, skills and competences in the technical field of interest; but also were trained to effectively transfer their acquired knowledge further to their colleagues in their hospitals. ENDORSE T-t-T Phase 2 will actively involve these trained trainers, together with the support from the Project Team facilitators, in further educational activities and training courses to be implemented in the target region.
